We normally work with schools to purchase a suitable server computer to enable the services below. There have been cases whereby existing computers have been setup to do the same tasks.

Web Server

For many organisations, hosting one's own web server means maintaining a single website that acts for both internet and intranet. Not only is updating of web pages faster and easier, staff see exactly the same interface on and off site. Additionally, introducing or installing new web technologies is simpler as you have complete control of your own server and are not limited by hosting companies.

Web Proxy

This reduces Internet charges by remembering recently visited sites. When multiple computers visit the same webpage, the page is not downloaded from the net for each computer. A web proxy can also log and limit which websites client machines access.

Mail Filtering

Most commercial mail blocking tools/services guess whether a message is spam by looking at its content. Not only can such products cost serious money, they do not work. Most spam is written specifically to mislead content algorithms and there is a serious risk that legitimate email is dropped without the sender being informed. Prototec installs completely different systems that have proven so successful that all clients with Prototec Servers have cancelled their subscriptions with companies that have specialised in spam control.

File Sharing

We can provide file sharing for Macintosh or Windows computers or both.

Web Mail

This allows staff to check their email from anywhere with an Internet connection. It is also less prone to email viruses than some mail clients.
